22 Houses Is Not a Home is a compelling and raw account of the author’s childhood and his experience growing up in a world full of violence, abuse, and neglect, beginning with his mother and the various men she introduced into her children’s lives. When the abuse and neglect reach an apex, Child Protective Services intervenes, splitting up Trevor and his brothers and funneling them into separate homes with sometimes equally neglectful strangers.
As young Trevor cycles through the system, bouncing from foster home to orphanage, he delves deeper into the fantasy world he has created for himself, where he lives in a dream home with a perfectly loving dream family, allowing him to escape the uncaring cold reality of his own life.
